Presence you can read. The connection indicator says how many people are in the room, or that you are offline, where it used to be a coloured dot you had to interpret.
Narrower permissions. The extension injects into the tab you activate it on rather than running a content script on every site you visit. It sees the pages you point it at, and no others.
